About

Texas Tech University has no policy for dealing with transsexual transition on the campus — by students, staff, or faculty. Neither does it have any language in its operating procedures to deal with non-discrimination of gender variance of any sort in hiring, tenure, or promotion. For that matter, the State of Texas has no such legal protections, either, according to Equality Texas.

The university has a non-discrimination policy protecting sexual orientation, is committed to fostering diversity of all sorts, and has an office of institutional diversity, a president’s council on gender equity, training programs for GLBTQ allies, counseling programs for students and staff, and a culture of openness to change, all of which is noteworthy and worth applauding and supporting.

Trans-TTU is a website designed to collect and comment upon materials related to gender variance at Texas Tech University, primarily for the purpose of helping the university to create fair and meaningful policies, but also to create a space for TTU faculty, staff, students, and alumni to make transsexual and transgender issues visible to each other and to the university community at large.
