The first Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit was held at the Graduate College of Social Work, University of Houston on July 23, 2009. Six colleges and universities were represented at the table: Univ of Houston, Univerisity of Houston-Clear Lake, Rice University, Texas A&M, Houston Communiity Colleges and, Texas State University. The purpose of the summit was to discuss strategies, methods and, applications to get their respective university to include the phrase “gender identity and expression” into their institutions nondiscrimination statement. A support network has been created on Yahoo Groups “Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit.” We will be inviting any university or college to attend the next summit in the summer of 2010.
